BACSTERS!

1. Last night's session was well attended, and we got a lot accomplished in our small groups. Many thanks to our group leaders, and especially GLYNN FLUITT and JOHN WARD who filled in admirably for our absent Director, JOE HUNTER, who was hit by the dreaded Double Whammy of wife Diane's birthday (#27, we think!), and daughter Sara's senior prom. Congratulations to Diane and Sara! Hopefully, Joe survived both events intact!

2. A reminder that we now have a new tag for Elvis, and a couple of new (installed last night) wrinkles in the Choreo for Elvis. Nothing big, mind you, but if you've been MIA you will need to get up to speed quickly. The revised tag is posted to the Members Only section of the BAC web site, and the new Choreo can be quickly learned at Monday's 6:30 PM Early choreo session.

3. Stuff That Needs Doing!!

  • a) Register for International - Registration forms at our web site and the Society web site - You cannot sing if you are not registered for the Convention.
  • b) Costume concerns?? Contact JIM STEINER at JIMSIE22@AOL.COM immediately! We are wearing the Elvis outfit!! Informals?? See Jon Ayers.
  • c) Check your Membership Card! If you are a 6/30 renewal you need to mail your check in early. You can also renew on line at the BHS web site. A couple of BACMEN have not yet renewed their 3/31 membership!! They presently are in a "suspended" member status and therefore ineligible to sing!! Please take care of this NOW! You cannot sing if you are not a member!
  • d) Plan to be in Indy no later than 4 PM on WEDNESDAY, July 5 for our first on site rehearsal, place TBA. Remember, this year, the Chorus Contest takes place on FRIDAY, July 7. We sing second!

    4. We welcome back to the risers Founding Member PAUL SANTINO, who will be joining the Bari section in time for Indianapolis. Paul also brings with him his talented son JOHN, a member of the Frank Thorne Chapter, who will be competing in Indianapolis with his collegiate quartet! Also reactivating is BACMAN MICHAEL HO, who sings with John Santino in their collegiate quartet. All three were on the risers last night, and appear to be getting up to speed mui rapido! They are all welcome additions to our growing enterprise.

    5. We were saddened this week to learn of the sudden passing of former BACMAN RUSS TOBIN. Many of our Long Island members, who also sang with Russ in the North Brookhaven and Twin Shores Chapters were in attendance at his services last night. We extend our condolances to Harriett and the Tobin family on the loss of this talented and giving gentlemen. Russ was 85 years young and still an active and contributing Barbershopper and community member. He will be missed. Rest in peace, and in eternal harmony.

    6. Riser Protocols! We thank all those who have been co-operating with our reminder NOT to hum the pitch when it is sounded. It really has helped us to stay in tune! Another minor point has been raised by some BACMEN. It appears that a couple of guys have taken to surreptitiously blowing THEIR pitchpipe (to check pitch, we guess) at the end of (and even, God forbid!!) DURING a song! Please resist the temptation to do this. It is not only annoying to those around you, but has been known to be a cause for justifiable homicide!! Forewarned is forearmed! STOP! PLEASE!!

    7. A note to those BACMEN who may be sitting out this year's International. Our Dress Rehearsal is on Monday, June 26, and we sure would like to see your friendly faces in the audience to give us that final push before we leave. We are inviting all BACMEN to bring family and friends to this special rehearsal. It promises to be a BLAST!

    See you all on Monday!

    It is G R E A T to be a BACMAN!! .
